About the Artist

Sandy (Sam) Ottewell moved from the interior of British Columbia to Alberta in 1999 and began fly-fishing with her husband, Kevin, along Alberta’s famous west slope streams and rivers. As an experienced fisher, Sandy’s art realistically captures the movement and habitat of fish, and other wild life along the river.  Occasionally, the movement of a perfect cast or the specific fly that attracted the fish to her line will also be rendered in water colour or acrylic.

Her natural compositions reflect the wild sprit of Alberta’s mountain streams and have been commissioned as awards by Trout Unlimited Canada and helped to raise funds for Ducks Unlimited.  In 2004 Sandy left the teaching profession to focus on her goal of painting full time, and when not painting, she will often be found fishing and exploring along the rivers in the Crowsnest Pass.

Her art can be seen at the Terra Cotta Gallery (Black Diamond, Alberta), and in fly fishing shops and lodges, as well as, in private collections.
